Carlisle United are planning talks with Tottenham Hotspur regarding the future of on-loan goalkeeper Ben Alnwick.

The 21-year-old's month-long loan expires this week and he is ineligible to feature in Tuesday's FA Cup first-round replay against Grays Athletic.

Alnwick has made six appearances during his stint with Carlisle and caretaker boss Greg Abbott appears keen to extend the loan.

However, Abbott is unsure whether Spurs, now under the guidance of Harry Redknapp, will agree to Alnwick staying at Brunton Park.

"The Ben Alnwick loan is due to finish next Saturday, and we are in talks with Tottenham at the moment to see where we are going to go with that," Abbott told the club's official website.

"He can't play in the cup tie on Tuesday, which we already knew, so I'll speak to the assistant manager down there and to Ben himself, over the course of the next few days, to see what they want to do."
