Veteran shot-stopper Cesar Sanchez insists he is ready to end Tottenham's goalkeeping crisis.

The 37-year-old moved to White Hart Lane from Real Zaragoza over the summer, but has seen his route to the first-team blocked by Heurelho Gomes and has been restricted to just one substitute appearance so far.

However, with the Brazilian incumbent of the No.1 jersey enduring a torrid start to life in England, Cesar is in contention to plug the gap.

Spurs can ill-afford for Gomes' antics to cost them any more points, and boss Harry Redknapp is unlikely to continue gambling on his error-prone South American coming good.

With that in mind, former Real Madrid player Cesar claims he is primed for action should he be called upon.

Solution

"I am here as a solution for the coach," Cesar told Marca.

"Whether I play or not, I am not going to change; I will keep a smile on my face and be focused on my club duty. But, of course, I like to play."

Spurs also have the option of handing a senior debut to youngster Ben Alnwick should they decide to change tack.

The 21-year-old has recently completed a loan spell at Carlisle and, while the Cumbrians are keen to take him back, the England U21 international could be handed an opportunity to shine in the Premier League.
