Alan Hutton is confident he can establish himself as a regular member of the Tottenham side under Harry Redknapp.

The Scotland right-back slotted into the team impressively following his January move from Rangers but then suffered a broken foot in the summer.

He recently returned to action and believes he is now virtually fully fit after working hard in training.

Redknapp has rotated his defence since taking charge at White Hart Lane, with Vedran Corluka often switching to full-back in place of Hutton.

It would appear Redknapp has yet to settle on his preferred back four, although Hutton is convinced he will play a major role.

Quality squad

He said: "It's been tough. I missed all of pre-season and hadn't played for five months and was then thrown back into it, it's been hard to take all in.

"I did a pre-season in two weeks and I got rushed back to play four games in 10 days. I'm getting there and starting to find form, so it's looking up now.

"I would say I am (match-fit) now and, if not, I'm getting close to it.

"I played against Liverpool last week and felt really good for the first time after a game.

"We've got a quality squad down there, with a lot of international players. It's good competition, but that's what you need to progress as a player.

"It's going to be tough but I'm sure if I keep doing what I know I can do, I don't see it being a problem."

Maradona

Hutton is currently in Scotland preparing for Wednesday's international friendly against Diego Maradona's Argentina, live on Sky Sports 1.

He is looking forward to the match, adding: "It's a massive occasion.

"Everybody wants to play against teams like Argentina. They are a top nation, and I want to be involved. It's going to be a massive game.

"We have looked up to people like that (Maradona), and it's going to be great to be in the company of him and get to meet him."
