Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp insists he will have no qualms about calling upon Heurelho Gomes this weekend.

The much-maligned keeper has come in for fierce criticism of late following a number of inept showings between the sticks.

A costly error at Fulham on Saturday ultimately cost Spurs a point, while there have been countless other occasions where he has looked far from assured.

Should his failings see him ousted from the side, then Redknapp does have specialist reserve keeper Cesar Sanchez and youngster Ben Alnwick to deputise.

However, the Spurs boss insists he has no desire to make such a change at present and will continue to keep faith with Gomes.

"He's our number one goalkeeper so he's got to do the job - we're relying on

him heavily," Redknapp said.

"I believe in him and we have to believe in him.

"Obviously he is disappointed with the weekend but his record tells you he is a world-class goalkeeper.

"He has to bounce back from that and turn in a terrific performance this weekend (against Blackburn). I'm sure he'll do that. He's a strong character. It's up to him now."

Meanwhile, Redknapp admits that the crunch clash with fellow strugglers Rovers on Sunday, coupled with another home date against Everton a week later, presents Spurs with an ideal opportunity to become upwardly mobile.

"It's a big game for us this weekend, we have a couple of home games and need to pick up good points because it is so close - it's unbelievable down there, a couple of wins can move you up the table so much," he added.
