Heurelho Gomes insists he wants to stay at Tottenham next season despite persistent reports linking him with a return to PSV Eindhoven.

The goalkeeper only signed from the Dutch giants last summer but, after a disastrous start to his Spurs career, where he made a number of calamitous mistakes, many expected the Brazilian to quickly depart White Hart Lane.

That feeling was heightened when manager Harry Redknapp brought in Chelsea shot-stopper Carlo Cudicini in January.

However since then the 28-year-old has gone from strength to strength and, after winning his place back in the team, he finished the season in fine form, keeping eight clean sheets in the last 15 games.

"I want to stay but if they want to sell me, I'll have to go," he told the Daily Star.

"Tottenham is a great club in England and I think I'll do really well next season. I have three years left on my contract and I want to stay."

Confidence

Gomes is also confident he can continue his form from the end of last term and insists his high-profile mistakes are a thing of the past.

"I think the second half of the season was so much better," he added.

"But I've worked hard and obviously goalkeeping coach Tony Parks gave me confidence. So I would like to stay."
