Harry Redknapp has confirmed that Tottenham are making good progress in their efforts to sign Sandro.

The Brazilian midfielder, who currently plies his trade with Internacional, has been a transfer target for some time.

Sandro's agent Luiz Paulo Chignall revealed earlier this week that a deal was close and Redknapp is hopeful Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will conclude negotiations in the near future.

"The chairman has been speaking to the people there," he said. "It's something we're interested in doing and the chairman is well down the road with that one."

Redknapp is also looking to bring in a new goalkeeper after Carlo Cudicini suffered wrist and pelvis injuries in a motorcycling accident.

A number of shot-stoppers have been linked with a move to White Hart Lane but the manager admits he is still at an early stage in his search.

"We're also looking around for a goalkeeper but I haven't got anyone near to bringing in," he said.

Dos Santos

Meanwhile, Redknapp has played down speculation linking Giovani dos Santos with a switch away from the club.

The Mexican playmaker has had limited opportunities to impress at Spurs, while his progress has also been hampered by an ankle injury this season.

But Redknapp is convinced he can establish himself as a key figure in the club's future.

"Giovani is okay," said Redknapp regarding his injury. "He's trained but is short on match-practice.

"He's getting fitter but needs a game, 90 minutes in the reserves.

"I'm looking forward to getting him back fit, he's a good young player and was in great form before he got injured. It was a big blow for us to lose him at that time.

"I want him to stay and there is no chance he'll be leaving. I want him to do what we hope he can do - be a big player for Tottenham."
