Robbie Keane is looking forward to 'a couple of months' of gossip-free football at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Irishman was the subject of intense transfer speculation throughout the summer, with his future at White Hart Lane cast into doubt on a regular basis.

He has, however, seen out the window in north London and remains part of Harry Redknapp's plans for the 2010/11 campaign.

Keane is now looking forward to focusing on football again, although he insists he never let the incessant rumours become a distraction.

"It doesn't really affect me," he said.

"For a long time now since I started off, there's always speculation, but unfortunately, I can't help speculation.

"I can just concentrate on what I am doing. I was quite relaxed about the transfer window, I wasn't really too bothered.

"All the clubs are probably glad now that it is closed and everyone can concentrate on playing football.

"There won't be a lot of speculation now for at least a couple of months."

Keane, who was linked to Newcastle, Liverpool, Celtic and Besiktas among others, is determined to force his way back into the fold at Spurs.

He has made just two substitute appearances so far this season, but insists his lack of action is down to a niggling knee injury rather than a lack of faith from his manager.

Keane said: "It's only really been two weeks, the season has only just started.

"I missed the Stoke game through the injury, but I had a good pre-season. I felt good, I felt sharp and that was only really a few weeks ago."

Keane will get some minutes under his belt for the Republic of Ireland over the course of the next week, with Giovanni Trapattoni's side set to get their Euro 2012 qualification campaign underway.

He said: "For us as players, you want to be involved in every competition and unfortunately, we haven't been for a while now.

"Our aim, every time we go into a competition, is to win it and qualify, but unfortunately, for whatever reason over the last few years, we just haven't got there. Hopefully this time will be different."
