Van der Vaart: Dramatic deal
Rafael van der Vaart has revealed that he chose to join Tottenham ahead of Liverpool this summer.
The Holland international made a dramatic deadline day switch to White Hart Lane after seeing Harry Redknapp move late for his services.
It had appeared that the playmaker was all set to remain at Spanish giants Real Madrid, with no agreement in place to take him away from the Bernabeu.
However, Spurs snapped him up, with the move among the more intriguing to be completed during the summer transfer window.
Redknapp claimed at the time that he pounced for Van der Vaart after seeing Bayern Munich come up short in their efforts to do a deal.
However, the 27-year-old insists it was not the German giants who had made a late bid for his services.
Instead, he claims that Liverpool were the other side hoping to push through a deal, forcing him to choose between two Premier League heavyweights.
Van der Vaart told Sky Sports News: "Liverpool were interested. Bayern were not interested.
"In the end you have to have a good feeling, and with this manager I got a good feeling. I am happy and I am going to Spurs.
"I am going to give it my best and hopefully I will play a lot of games and be important for the team. I hope to get a lot of goals and have a lot of fun."
Van der Vaart is also looking forward to adding to the strong Dutch contingent already plying their trade in the English top flight.
Having been urged to move to the Premier League by his international colleagues for some time, the former Ajax and Hamburg ace is keen to see what all the fuss is about.
"They were always telling me, 'You have to come to England'," he added.
"Now it's happened and I am really looking forward to playing against Dirk (Kuyt), against Nigel (De Jong), against (John) Heitinga."

I guess Spurs offered more money. As simple as that .... He surely knows if he signed on for more than 1 year that he''ll at best be playing in the Europa Cup next season with Spurs. Money talks and right now VDV has chosen money over Glory ..... Long term .......... oh well .... another mercenary!

If he doesn''t want to play for Liverpool then that''s it. Why keep on telling the whole world that he snud Liverpool, don''t he think that Liverpool enquire his service and he should be proud of instead of keep on tell how great he''s. If he''s that great why is he does command a place in the Real team. So, keep your mouth shut, you can never tell what the future lies ahead of you.

Once again some poor, sad, bitter, Liverpool fans moaning because they''ve been rejected by another top international. Try getting your club financially stable and settle down your top players before you start making childish comments about Spurs being knocked out at the group stage - even if we do we''ll still be joining the Europa League and by then you''ll probably have been knocked out of that. It made me laugh about the comments r.e VDV using us as a stepping stone - what do you think Torres is doing with you lot? Saying all this I do believe Ol'' Woy is probably the best thing that could''ve happened to L''pool this year - need I mention Leeds???

he came to the right club, better 11, better squad , better manager, better chairman, new 55.000 ground not too far away, better chance of winning the champions league lol. dont be bitter of him because he''s went to a team that he thinks will do better than another team. p.s stop living in the past coys

In the highly unlikely event that Sky actually bother to show this post (I''ve been commenting for over a year and not one has been put up yet) I think it''s apalling that the transfer was allowed to go through given that it wasn''t completed until well after the deadline but because Spurs are a ''big'' club they get away with it. The FA have a boner for ''arry and let him do whatever he wants. Spurs are a joke. They''ll fail miserably in the Champions League regardless of who they''re illegally allowed to sign and their chairman needs a reality check regarding his valuation of players. Hutton was spot on yesterday when he said his price needs to come down. asking for £9m for a guy who''s hardly played in over a year is rediculous.

Loving the comments from the bitter Liverpool fans. There is a chance we may not get through the group stages but one thing is absolutely certain...Liverpool still wont be in it!

Some of you Liverpool fans are still living in the past, your time has passed now and you are skint. Spurs have their new training ground, will soon have a new stadium and they are in London, how many foreign players would choose to live in the North West ahead of the finest city in the world. Lets wait and see results in the CL before jumping to conclusions, Spurs have a very impressive record in European competitions, our time lies ahead not behind.

Sounds like there are a couple of bitter reds here. Give Tottenham the credit they deserve. Spurs were the best of the rest last term and are going places, the team is strong and this signing will make them better. All the best in the champions league guys, its about time another team had a crack at it from the premier league. Lets hope Everton and Liverpool can challenge you for the place this year.

Rafael Van Der Vaart had just made the single biggest mistake of his life, although Spurs did sign him, they won''t make it through the Champions League Knockouts and if he went there to win trophy''s, then why has he gone to Spurs, because they are as likely to win anything this season as Harrogate Town are getting promoted to the Blue Square Premier this season. In plain English, they aren''t gonna win anything this season.

He''s a good player but he hasn''t even kicked a ball yet and here he is larging it about another club. Fair play to Tottenham, they''ve done well of late but it won''t last forever and once ''Arry gets a better offer he''ll be off like the mercenary he is then what? For now though, Spurs are more stable and that''s why he''s chosen them (that and the huge difference in offered wages). I accept his decision, damn, I think he made the right one but don''t gob-off..it''s just classless.

I understand why Van der Vaart went to spurs instead of us because us (liverpool isnt a stable club any more our owners are asking wayy too much for the club and our club is in such a mess it really is i just want the yanks out and some one who will spend money on a new stadium new traing and youth set up and also spend around 100Million on new faces so we can get 4/3 and be more stable so i really do understand Van der Vaart, I really do i think it was a good move for him, he needed a fresh start his an amazing player he will do very well its a shame that real madrid foreced him out but maybe its a good think for him we will see.

More fool him then. Spurs did well last year and I was made up when they got fourth ahead of City but they won''t do it again this season and will get knocked out at group stages as they have no experience of going away from home in Europe. Its clear VDV chose Spurs to play Champions League but Spurs fans beaware he is using your club as a stepping stone to move on to a bigger club. He is using this switch as a showpeice to get his name back up in lights as he approaches his peak years. Good luck to him at Spurs but don''t be suprised if Chelsea or United sign him next year.

VDV choose the right team, spurs are certainly going places unlike Liverpool at present. I sure the lack of Champoins League football at Liverpool helped hime decide.
