It would have been good to have him here available to play for us. But it couldn't happen, so it's not a problem, you just get on with it.
Quotes of the week
Harry Redknapp says his bid to bring David Beckham to Tottenham is a 'no-goer', though expects the midfielder to train with the club for a month.
It appeared likely LA Galaxy man Beckham would link up with Spurs on a two-month loan in the MLS close-season, with Redknapp anticipating to wrap up the deal this weekend.
However, Redknapp has now revealed 'insurance issues' have prevented the move from going ahead after the 35-year-old picked up an Achilles injury while on loan at AC Milan last season.
"I don't think it's going to happen," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.
"I spoke with the chairman and I think there are big problems with insurance issues and everything.
"He got injured last year at Milan, I think there was issues there with insurance."
Redknapp says the former England captain is likely to arrive at White Hart Lane this week to begin a month's training with the north London club.
He said: "What's going to happen, David is welcome to come and train here for a month or so, which I think he would like to do and we're pleased to have him come and train.
"It will be nice to have him here training with us for a month and I think he'll be great to have around the place and he'll be a good influence on everybody and I look forward to him coming.
"But I think as far as playing goes it looks like it's a no-goer."
Redknapp admits he is disappointed not to welcome the veteran midfielder to Spurs as a player, having previously seemed on the brink of securing the deal.
He added: "For sure. It would have been nice.
"It would have been good to have him here available to play for us. But it couldn't happen, so it's not a problem, you just get on with it."
Tottenham take on Charlton at home in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday, a match Beckham was rumoured to be attending.
But Redknapp says he does not expect the former England skipper to be there, adding: "I don't think so. I'm 99 per cent sure, as far as I know, he's not coming today."
Every player in the world at one time or another is linked with joining Spurs is this the press or media taking trhe mickey or are most of them supporters living in hope.Ive just heard that the King of China is buying the club.

Shame he could not join spurs it would have been fun watching a player on the field withh a zimmer frame. Spurs need all the help they can get just to finnish in the top 6

Harry forget Beckham and get a decent left back this is the weakest position in the side. Yes Baines would be the ideal man.
Posted 12:53 9th January 2011
Couldn't be happier. I'm sure the media can still get photos of him on the training ground and maybe some of the kids might learn off him how to pose for the cameras. Best news i've had for ages.

@Jason Dawson. You already have a 20+ a season striker in Jermain Defoe, when he's not injured and playing at his peak. Your club are fulfilling all Spurs fans' dreams right now with their quality and results so stop moaning and get behind your team.

He trained witth Arsenal last year and I don't think they won anything. Good luck to him.
Posted 12:40 9th January 2011
Jason Dawson you obviously't been watching spurs play- crouch doesn't play every game so Harry doesn't think he's the perfect striker. Plus Gomes is hardly the new "david James" as you put it - he's one of the best keepers in the league, go watch spurs instead of reading about the matches in the sun newspaper Monday morning. Facts- get them right!!

Same old spur s always nearly getting someone

Beckham coming to Tottenham hotspur will contribute to take the club to high level, becos of his talent and the players will be motivated through him. Its a good idea for Beckham coming to this club.

David Beckham has wasted his best years playing in America for huge money. If he wanted to play in the premier league he should have decided four years ago.
Posted 12:03 9th January 2011
If Becks really wanted to be at Spurs, he would pay the insurance himself.
Posted 11:57 9th January 2011
It's a shame really, why try to get Yanks interested in FOOTBALL anyways? Its a dead end with them. Come back to England and play in PL until you join Harry at Wembley with England and lead us to Brazil full of hope.

football fans will be dissapointed if DB is unable to show off his talents for a couple of months due to insurance issues
Posted 11:48 9th January 2011
I knew this was never going to happen it was a complete waste of time by harry, every spurs fan knows we need a 20+ a season striker we have needed 1 for over 4 years but harry is to short sighted to see this. He thinks peter crouch is the perfect striker i cant remember when he last scored even though he plays every game we also need a goalkeeper as gomes is the new david james. Harry wake up we have a team of midfielders get the lead out and buy a striker and a goalkeaper stop chasing has beens
Posted 11:45 9th January 2011
I think it would be nice for david beckham to join Tottenham becuase he has just spent time in UK and then you have got balckburn who want to bid for him as well but i think it would be nice for him to join Tottenham
Posted 11:42 9th January 2011
Nevermind, having him train with the club is probably the main reason Redknapp wanted him anyway and it looks like that will still happen. Shame we'll never find out if he could still cut in the Premier League or not.
