Roberts backs Bentley to shine

Jason Roberts believes Blackburn team-mate David Bentley could become one of the best players of his generation.

The in-form Rovers striker has recognised the contribution of Bentley to Rovers' season, with the England Under-21 international having come of age this term.

Bentley is in the running to be named Rovers' player of the season and Roberts is in little doubt of the midfielder's quality.

"Bents has been fantastic," Roberts told Sky Sports News

"He's a player who's got all the ability in the world and it wouldn't surprise me in a few years' time if you hear about David Bentley being spoken about as one of the great players of his generation because he's got that kind of ability."

Roberts also hailed his blossoming partnership with top scorer Benni McCarthy.

Roberts has started Rovers' last four matches in tandem with the South African and in that time the pair have claimed six goals between them.

"We get on really well and he's a player that's got everything and achieved so much in the game. When we play together I feel really good about that.

"We've got some really good players at this club and you've got to do your job to stay in the team but when we do play together I think we really enjoy it."
