Roberts hopes Benni stays

Jason Roberts is confident strike partner Benni McCarthy will stay at Blackburn Rovers.

McCarthy recently admitted to being flattered by reports of interest from London duo Chelsea and West Ham United.

The South African hit-man enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Premier League following his £2.5million move from Porto.

Rovers are determined to hang on to McCarthy and Roberts is also hoping that his attacking cohort will not leave Ewood Park.

"I'm hoping he doesn't go because he's someone who would be really missed around the place," Roberts told Sky Sports News.

"He is someone who has got a great spirit and has won so much in his career.

"I'm not surprised that clubs are in for him.

"I haven't spoken to him since we've been away, but I'm sure he's in South Africa enjoying himself and thinking about things.

"Benni's a professional and he's enjoyed his time at Blackburn, but obviously it's hard when clubs come in for you.

"I'm quite confident he will be at Blackburn next year."
