Roberts helps Rovers to win

Jason Roberts tormented the Wrexham defence as Blackburn Rovers won 2-1 at the Racecourse Ground.

The powerful striker scored one, and was the architect for the other, as Blackburn started their preparations for their upcoming Intertoto Cup tie.

The opening goal arrived on 27 minutes when Roberts picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and surged past some weak defending before finishing past the keeper.

On 35 minutes, another storming run from Roberts resulted in the forward being upended by Richard Hope, allowing Robbie Savage to convert from the penalty spot.

Wrexham pulled a goal back 10 minutes into the second half when Kaid Mohamed took advantage of sloppy defending to score.

Mark Hughes introduced new signing Maceo Rigters for his first appearance for Rovers for the final half-hour.

Meanwhile, John Hartson scored an early goal as West Bromwich Albion drew 1-1 at Histon.

Fellow Championship side Ipswich Town claimed a 3-0 success at Burton Albion as Alan Lee notched twice and Matt Richards was also on the scoresheet.

Paul Connor, Andy Lindegaard, John Finnigan and Ben Gill scored as Cheltenham Town recorded a 4-0 win at Bath City.
