Hughes: Delighted

Mark Hughes was full of praise for Blackburn following their win over Manchester City.

Rovers outfought Sven Goran Eriksson's City slickers with Benni McCarthy's goal settling the contest.

The home side found themselves a man down when Tugay was sent off, although City failed to make their advantage count as Richard Dunne was also dismissed.

"I thought we were excellent," Hughes told Sky Sports News. "The way we went about our job was first class.

"Manchester City are a good team if you let them play. We weren't prepared to let that happen.

"Some of the football we played was incisive. We're delighted with the three points.

"Even a man down I thought we looked the more likely to score.

"I'm just really pleased with the manner of the performance. I thought we were very good."

Meanwhile, Hughes has confirmed Robbie Savage only bruised his leg after being on the receiving end of an early thunderous challenge from Dunne.

"He was a little bit frightened as the tackle was on the spot where he broke his leg," Hughes continued.

"The scan has come back and it's fine. He thought he might have broken it, but it's not the case.

"It's sore. The pain he'll have tonight won't be very nice I'm sure."
