It is obviously a blow to Robbie.
Rovers boss Mark Hughes
Quotes of the week
Blackburn Rovers will be without midfielder Robbie Savage for up to six weeks after undergoing knee surgery.
Savage suffered the knock in Sunday's late 2-1 win at Spurs after being caught by Robbie Keane.
Rovers had hoped the Welsh firebrand would not require surgery but a scan confirmed their worst fears.
This latest absence is a blow for Savage after he missed much of the second half of last season after breaking his leg against Watford.
"It is obviously a blow to Robbie, to the team and the club," manager Mark Hughes told the club's official website.
"He had been playing well and was enjoying being part of a winning team.
"He was very disappointed to miss out on so much of last season with the broken leg, and he doesn't takes these things well initially, he has a low period, but he soon gets his head around the situation and then he's fine.
"I feel sorry for him, but the door now opens for someone else over the next few weeks."
Aaron Mokoena, who replaced Savage in the win at White Hart Lane, is set to fill in for the midfielder in Wednesday's Carling Cup clash against Portsmouth.
