Matt Derbyshire is determined to make the most of any opportunity at Blackburn Rovers.

The striker has yet to start a Premier League game this season, but came off the bench to score the winner against Fulham on Saturday.

His only start arrived in the Carling Cup second round and Derbyshire rose to the challenge by netting twice against Grimsby Town last month.

Derbyshire admits it is tough to set personal targets for the season as he battles to secure a starting role in manager Paul Ince's plans.

Opportunity

"Every player has targets at the start of the season, but you can't reach those targets if you're not playing every week," said Derbyshire in the Daily Star.

"If I was playing every week, I'd be aiming at double figures as far as goals are concerned.

"But I'm not, so I have to grab whatever opportunity I can.

"It's down to me to perform and down to the manager to pick me to play. If he does, then I know I will perform."
