Paul Ince has labelled 'disrespectful' Newcastle's attempt to convince Terry Venables to manage the club on an interim basis.

The former England boss was offered the St James' Park reins on a short-term basis; a position since taken up by Joe Kinnear after he rejected the role.

Blackburn boss Ince, who himself has been linked with the position, feels a manager of Venables' stature deserves more respect.

Ince played under Venables at Euro '96 and has nothing but admiration for the veteran tactician.

"At the end of the day he's a fantastic manager, he's a great manager," he told Sky Sports News.

"I had the privilege to work under him at Euro '96 and for someone of his stature and standing in the game to go to a club for just four or five weeks is as far as I'm concerned disrespectful to the man himself.

"I can understand him saying no to Newcastle."
