Benni McCarthy is determined to fight for his place in the Blackburn Rovers side but admits he may have to consider his options if he continues to struggle for regular first-team football.

The South Africa striker, 30, has recorded just two Premier League starts this season under new manager Paul Ince.

McCarthy is eager to impress Ince, who took over in the summer, and rediscover the form that saw him net 24 goals in his debut term in England's top flight.

He said: "Obviously as a player you want to play, you always want to be in contention of playing because it becomes a habit.

"And when you are not playing you get frustrated and obviously you are going to look for opportunities elsewhere you know.

Fate

"Like I said, I will continue to work hard and if I get my chance I will try to take it with both hands and if I don't I will just continue working hard and at the end of the day, fate will decide whether I stay at Blackburn or leave.

"But at the moment I am just trying to really work hard by getting back to the way I know I can play and getting back to my old goal-scoring habits.

"Once that comes and obviously given the opportunity then I will try to do my best, but if not then hopefully that means the end of me at Blackburn, then so be it.

"It just depends on what the manager at the end of the day wants from me, if I am in his plans or if I am not in his plans. And over that future, I have no say."
