Former Blackburn Rovers striker Chris Sutton has called for Paul Ince to be given more time.

The Ewood Park supremo is under pressure following Saturday's home defeat by Liverpool which took their recent run to 10 Premier League games without a win.

They are currently second from bottom in the table and Ince is losing support from some sections of the Ewood Park faithful.

The club says they will not be making a decision his future just yet but Sutton, who won the Premier League with Rovers in 1995, believes it is way too early to be judging the former England midfielder.

"It's early days for Paul Ince at the moment," he told Sky Sports News.

"People aren't giving him the time and the opportunity to do his job.

"He's been unfortunate. He lost Brad Friedel and David Bentley at the start of the season and they've had inujuries to David Dunn and Steven Reid in midfield.

Realism

"And Roque Santa Cruz has been struggling with injuries and there's that cloud which has been hanging over him whether he will stay or go, which hopefully will go and he'll end up staying at Blackburn."

Sutton also believes that a lack of spending power is not helping Ince's cause.

Keeping Santa Cruz was perhaps the best piece of business he was able to carry out, but otherwise Rovers were one of the smallest spenders in the top flight.

"I think that's the realism of the situation that Blackburn are in at the moment.

"Back in the early to mid-90's Blackburn were financially very strong. They are still a very stable club but they're not spending as much as they did back then and it's hard to compete.

"It's still a great club and Paul Ince, for me, needs time."
