Hughes excited by Cottage move

After joining Fulham from Aston Villa, Aaron Hughes has told Sky Sports News the time was right for a new challenge.

The defender links up with his former manager at Northern Ireland, Lawrie Sanchez, after completing a £1million move to Craven Cottage on Wednesday.

Hughes spent two seasons at Villa Park and, whilst admitting it was a wrench to leave his friends in the Midlands, is excited about the challenge ahead at Craven Cottage.

"Obviously I know the manager from Northern Ireland, and I had a good chat with him before I came down to have a look round and I was pretty impressed by what he was saying," Hughes told Sky Sports News.

"I think it was time for me to move on anyway, start afresh, and have a new go at something and hopefully I can do well and be part of a successful Fulham side.

"I made some really good friends there [Villa], and I am a little disappointed to be leaving because I am leaving a few friends behind, but that is football and you have to move on.

"I think it is the right time for me to try something new, and I am very excited about going to Fulham."
