Scott Carson has revealed he is close to completing a permanent move to Aston Villa from Liverpool.

The former Leeds custodian has confirmed a deal has been agreed which could allow him to make the switch to Villa Park on a permanent basis.

Carson joined Villa initially on a season-long loan in the summer and he has impressed during his time at the club.

The highly-rated keeper is keen to stay at Villa as he is behind Jose Reina in the pecking order at Liverpool and he wants to be playing first-team football on a regular basis

Settled

"What I want now is to be settled for the next five to 10 years. I've been out on loan a lot over the last couple of seasons.

"It is not easy when you keep moving up and down the country. It would be nice to settle at a club that I like and where the fans like me.

"I've settled in well at Aston Villa over the past few months. Everyone at the club has welcomed me and that has been a big help.

"I think the clubs have agreed something where, if everyone is happy, my move could be made permanent and it is something I would welcome. I would prefer to establish myself as a number one at Villa.

"I don't feel I've done a great deal wrong so far and, if I feel I should have done better, I will be the first person to admit it. I'm not one for coming up with excuses."

Improve
Villa boss Martin O'Neill is delighted Carson's impact at Villa Park and believes he can get even better.

O'Neill said: "Scott he has done very well. I've been very pleased with him. He is improving as a keeper.

"He is very young but he has got a terrific attitude and wants to improve."

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed Villa have an option to make Carson's move a permanent arrangement.

"Villa have an option. It is up to them now," said Benitez.
