Moore: Fighting for place

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Mowbray has warned loan signing Luke Moore not to expect a regular first-team place.

The striker made the loan move to The Hawthorns after failing to cement a place in Martin O'Neill's plans at Aston Villa.

Moore joins a strong line-up of strikers and Mowbray revealed he has told the 22-year-old he faces tough competition.

"It's not as if we are struggling for goals and Luke understands that, but hopefully we can put him in an environment where he can flourish and enjoy his football," Mowbray told the Daily Star.

"He also understands the quality of footballers we have got in the position he plays.

Competition

"He seems happy to come on board and compete with those players for a place in the team."

Moore has joined West Brom on loan until the end of the season but the Championship promotion contenders have the option to seal a £3.5m permanent switch.

Mowbray insists the striker will start games if he proves he is deserving of a starting place above the existing regulars.

"If he comes in, does extremely well and scores lots of goals, then he will play most weeks," Mowbray added.

"However, there will be games - even when he is scoring goals - where he will have to sit on the bench."
