Steve Coppell says Reading received no deadline day bids for Stephen Hunt and Kevin Doyle.

Irish midfielder Hunt was understood to have been the subject of a failed £3.5million offer from Everton before the close of the transfer window.

Though Coppell confirmed speaking to his Everton counterpart David Moyes, he admits there was no concrete bid from the Premier League club.

"I read on Sky we were supposed to have turned down a £3.5million bid for Stephen Hunt, but that was not the case," Coppell told the club's official website.

No business

"I spoke with David Moyes, I think it was Sunday, and he was just making a call regarding a number of players and asking the situation. I explained the situation and never heard from him again.

"Nobody at this club heard from anyone else at Everton, so that was incorrect and just part of a media frenzy."

The Reading boss also admitted that there was no fresh interest in Doyle following the striker's persistent link to Aston Villa.

Coppell added: "We had no positive calls about Kevin Doyle. As always there are agents trying to spark things, but from club to club there was no business.

"Nobody has phoned this club and offered money for Kevin Doyle for weeks."
