Steve Sidwell is set to step up his return from a calf injury with a run out for Aston Villa's reserves on Wednesday.

The midfielder joined Villa from Chelsea this summer but is yet to feature for his new club in the Premier League.

He has been sidelined for the club's last five games, including Uefa Cup qualifiers, but is ready to push for a place in Martin O'Neill's plans.

"It would be easy to make a mountain out of a molehill. I've missed a few weeks and that's it. It's fine now and I can move on", Sidwell told the Birmingham Mail.

"I am available for selection now. I've trained hard this week and with a game or two under my belt let's see what the manager decides for Tottenham away in 12 days time (15th September)."

Frustrating

Sidwell did feature for Villa in their opening European games of the season against Odense, but is now looking to make an impact in the top flight.

He added: "It was disappointing to be involved for a few weeks and to then pick this up.

"Hopefully I can now get back to my best form for Villa because I need to be showing that."

"Obviously it has been a frustrating time. I've been out for about four weeks and have been working hard.

"Now I am fully fit and looking forward to getting out there and getting some match play."

Performing

Another of O'Neill's summer signings, Carlos Cuellar, is set to feature for the second string against Stoke and Sidwell expects the Spaniard to be as eager to get involved as he is.

"Carlos is obviously looking to get some games under his belt too", he said.

"He is getting used to his new surroundings and the players. It would be the same for anyone, you want to get yourself out on the pitch performing."
