Barry Bannan is aiming to use his loan spell at Blackpool to prove he can make the grade in Aston Villa's first team.

The Scottish midfielder has completed a loan move to Blackpool until 30th January and he is looking forward to his stint with the Championship's surprise package.

But the teenager's main aim is to demonstrate his worth to Villa boss Martin O'Neill after making just two Uefa Cup appearances for the club to date.

"I am really looking forward to it - it's a great challenge," Bannan, who had a loan spell at Derby County last season, told the club's official website.

Real test

"It's competitive football and that's going to be great. It's a real test playing in the Championship.

"It's a real physical and competitive league and that should stand me in good stead. I want to go there, work hard and do as well as I can.

"As the manager has said before, it's great to go out on loan and play for a cause. Blackpool are doing well - seventh in the Championship - and I want to help them kick on.

"It will give the manager an idea of whether I am ready for first-team football at Villa. He will want to see how I cope with playing every week and I'm sure he'll be following my progress and that of the other lads on loan at the moment."
