Aston Villa striker John Carew is refusing to set himself a goals target for the Midlanders this season.

The powerful Norwegian hit-man scored 10 Premier League goals last term and netted 11 in the previous campaign.

Carew is backing himself to continue to score goals for Villa this coming season, but is opting against applying added pressure by setting a target.

The 30-year-old says he is working hard on his fitness in pre-season in a bid to begin the campaign with a flying start.

Goals

"I have scored a lot of goals and hopefully I will continue to score goals this season," said Carew.

"I don't set targets. I just set myself giving 100 per cent and being ready to go for when the games begin.

"The goals normally come by themselves.

"I am doing my best to be fit and ready for when the season starts so I can't wait to get started again.

"I will do my best to be available for the team and be an important player for the team.

"I am looking forward to the season and I am trying to get myself as fit as possible."
