Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged the latest batch of academy graduates to be patient as they adjust to the rigours of Premier League football.

Young duo Marc Albrighton and Ciaran Clark have caught the eye during the opening matches of the season while Barry Bannan, Andreas Weimann, Eric Lichaj and Jonathan Hogg have also been elevated into first-team action under caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald.

Agbonlahor is eager to help his junior team-mates having developed into one of Villa's star players since coming through the ranks to make his debut in 2006.

And the England international has advised his counterparts to remain level-headed.

Agbonlahor told AVTV: "I think if you look at the likes of Marc Albrighton and Ciaran Clark and the impression they have made - and Barry Bannan too - they have been terrific.

"Sometimes it doesn't happen for you every game. That happens with everyone that comes through. Not every game is going to be perfect.

"But if you look at the West Ham game, the way they played in that game and in the European game, it shows they have got the talent. Hopefully they can keep it going."
