Houllier: Left Liverpool in 2004
Sky Sports News understands that former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier has been interviewed for the vacant manager's job at Aston Villa.
The Frenchman is said to be in contention to form a management team with Kevin MacDonald, who is currently in a caretaker role after Martin O'Neill resigned shortly before the start of the season.
Houllier left Liverpool in 2004, having led the Reds to a famous domestic-European Treble in 2001, and went on to take in a spell in charge of Lyon between 2005 and 2007.
Ex-England manager Sven Goran Eriksson and former West Ham and Charlton boss Alan Curbishley are also understood to have been interviewed, but the pair are no longer in contention.
Meanwhile, skysports.com understands former Italy coach Roberto Donadoni has applied for the Villa manager's job.

GH would be the right man for Villa, he''s a great manager with more European games under his belt than most managers. I only wish we had him back at pool instead of Mr. mid table RH.

I''d rather have Kevin MacDonald than Houllier. He brought a load of rubbish at Liverpool... Diouf, Daio, Traore, Cheyrou, Pongolle etc etc. A poor man''s Benitez, and he was rubbish as well!

Ok think houllier would be a better choice than some names that have been rumoured, wished it was David Moyes but that aint gonna happen, as for the forming a managment team with McDonald im not so sure, think it should be a clear manager as this is alot clearer for fans and especially the players. I personally dont think it should be McDonald anyway, we need exp and a new face, i think when the players are all saying we want him it shows a sign of perhaps an easy life for them if u know what i mean. Bring in a completly new man, Houllier first choice out of the realistic targets that have been branded about....second choice would be Sam Alladyce but not heard any rumours bout him, which i thought there would be.
