Gerard Houllier has told his Aston Villa players not to get carried away with their recent improvement in form.

Villa have eased their relegation worries with victories over Manchester City and Wigan in their past two games.

They are now six points clear of the drop zone and supporters will be starting to hope for a top-half finish rather than worry about a scrap for survival.

However, Houllier has warned his men to keep their concentration and be aware that it is still a very competitive division.

"We have got to not get carried away with what we have done. That is what I have told the players," said the Frenchman.

"We have to stay humble and very focused and keep working.

Togetherness

"You can't take anything for granted in this league. Any team can beat any team."

Houllier feels Villa have improved in all departments after recovering from a dismal recent run of one win in 10 league games.

He said: "All I know is we are physically fitter, stronger - and mentally stronger as well.

"The togetherness of the side can be felt."
