Ameobi: Out of Magpies frame

Norwich City boss Glenn Roeder says he has not made an approach to sign Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi on loan.

Roeder is looking to pep up his attack at Carrow Road after deciding against extending West Brom forward John Hartson's stay at the club.

He has been linked with a bid for Ameobi, while West Ham United's Bobby Zamora is also rumoured to be on Roeder's wanted list.

Having worked with Ameobi during his time in charge at St James' Park, Roeder is aware of the former England Under 21 international's qualities, but has yet to make an offer.

Highly talented

"Shola Ameobi is a player that did exceptionally well for me," Roeder told the Eastern Daily Press.

"His record in the Premiership when he played for me is something very close to a goal every three games in the Premiership, if not slightly better.

"He is completely out of the frame at Newcastle.

"We haven't made any enquiries about him, but he is certainly a highly talented striker, but of course it is about opinions.

"We will just have to wait and see."
