Keegan: Backing Forster for Under-21s
There is no reason why he can't go on to represent his country at under-21 level.
Keegan on Forster
Quotes of the week
Newcastle United reserve keeper Fraser Forster has signed an improved contract at the club keeping him at St James' Park until 2010.
Forster, who has been on The Magpies' bench of late with Shay Given on the sidelines, is thrilled to have committed himself to the North East club.
He has been earning rave reviews for his reserve-team displays, but the youngster is not getting carried with the plaudits, instead just focusing on continuing improving as a player.
"I'm absolutely delighted to sign my new contract at a club as big as this," he told the club's official website. "I've worked hard at my game and I definitely feel an improvement.
"It's nice to hear other people say that I'm the club's most improved player, but I know there's still plenty of work to be done and I'm looking forward to doing that with the people at this club."
Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has been pleased with Forster's progress and is tipping the shot-stopper to go and play for England's Under 21s.
"Fraser has come on leaps and bounds and could become an outstanding goalkeeper," said Keegan. "He has worked extremely hard and I was very keen to get him under contract.
"We will look for him to continue his development here and there is no reason why he can't go on to represent his country at Under 21 level."
