Owen: Not in talks

Michael Owen has revealed Newcastle United are yet to open discussions with him regarding a new contract at St James' Park.

The England international has just over a season to run on his existing deal, but, as yet, the club have not sat down with the 28-year-old to finalise his long-term future.

Owen has endured an injury-hit time in the North East, although he has been in a rich vein of form of late with four goals in his last five Premier League outings.

"At the moment there is nothing on the table for me to consider so it's hard for me to make a statement about my future," he told the News of the World.

"Discussions have not even started yet."

Keegan's plans

However, Owen has revealed manager Kevin Keegan has outlined to him his plans for the future to the club, a vision that excites the former Real Madrid ace.

"The manager called me into his office a week ago and told me about his plans for the future," the striker continued.

"He discussed the kind of players he wants to bring in and what ambitions he has for Newcastle United.

"I was really enthused by what he had to say. Everyone connected with the club is looking forward to next season with great anticipation.

"These last few weeks have given me a real appreciation of what Newcastle is all about. It has been my best spell since I arrival."
