Owen: Future doubt

Michael Owen scored both goals as Newcastle recorded a convincing victory over Sunderland - but again admitted he did not know where his future lies.

Owen had said earlier on Sunday that 'there is nothing on the table for me to consider' and reiterated that stance after the game on Sunday, saying he expects to resolve the issue in the summer.

He told Sky Sports: "In doing my skipper's notes in the programme, I stated to the fans that talks haven't begun yet, but the manager has pulled me to one side and said he wanted me to stay and the club would be in touch soon to talk and that's where we stand.

"I haven't spoken to the club yet, but obviously I would think in the close season then maybe they will approach me or my advisor."

Happy

He insists he is delighted to be St James' Park, though, and hinted that his decision may be affected by Kevin Keegan's ability to bring in quality signings ahead of the new season.

"It's great times at the minute," he said. "It's lovely to be part of the club.

"When the manager spoke to me, he said he's got big ambitions to target big players and obviously try to get this place where it belongs - back up challenging for European spots, Champions League spots.

"The future's looking bright."
