Obafemi Martins has travelled with the Newcastle squad to their pre-season training camp in Mallorca.

It was thought the Nigerian striker would miss the trip after the sudden death of his mother last week.

He had headed back to his homeland in the wake of the news to be with his family, with no date set for his return to the Magpies.

However, while the 23-year-old will not feature in fixtures against Hertha Berlin or Real Mallorca due to a minor injury, Kevin Keegan feels Martins will benefit from being back in the fold.

Treatment

"We felt it was very important he came with us," Keegan told the club's official website.

"It was such a sudden thing with his mother.

"But hopefully the lads will help him get over it.

"He won't play, he's got a slight problem with his knee and has had an injection so won't be able to play for the next four or five days.

"He'll have treatment over here and do his little bit of gym work around the lads and we felt it would be beneficial to come with us."
