Geremi insists Newcastle United's off-field problems are not affecting the players and has urged the squad to 'stick together'.

Newcastle are currently in turmoil following Kevin Keegan's abrupt resignation and owner Mike Ashley's subsequent decision to put the club up for sale.

Back-to-back defeats by Hull City and West Ham United have seen the Magpies slip to second bottom in the early Premier League table.

But Cameroon midfielder Geremi is confident the players are not fretting about the present boardroom unrest at St James' Park.

"We try not to think about things and just get on with our jobs," said Geremi in The Journal. "The problems are not affecting us. We just have a problem with a few injuries.

"We created some positive things. We created a few chances even when we were 2-0 down, but conceded some bad goals."

Big game

Geremi is now hoping Newcastle can secure a timely boost by beating Tottenham Hotspur in the Carling Cup third round on Wednesday, live on Sky Sports 2.

He added: "The fans see no confidence in us. We have to show on Wednesday that is not the case. We have to stick together. We need the fans to help us win.

"We need that cup, it's a way of qualifying for Europe.

"It is still the beginning of the season. We have time to correct things and we can do it, not get down and start getting things together, but Wednesday is a big game for us."
