Newcastle United interim manager Joe Kinnear believes the confidence on Tyneside is the 'lowest it has ever been'.

The Magpies currently lie second from bottom in the Premier League table, while they have lost their previous five outings.

Kinnear was handed the managerial position at St James' Park on a short-term basis last week following the departure of Kevin Keegan at the beginning of September.

The former Wimbledon, Luton and Nottingham Forest boss admits the uncertainty over the ownership of the club has had an effect on the players, but he has urged his charges to focus on their football.

Move on

"I sense the confidence is at the lowest it's ever been," said Kinnear, who delivered an expletive-filled press conference on Thursday, in the Daily Express.

"We need a quick change of attitude, that is for sure. You lift confidence by not moping too much about what has happened. Whatever negative stuff that's coming out in the media you have to get on with it.

"Too much has been made in the dressing room of the ownership. We don't know where we're going, we don't know who's coming in and all that.

"But loads of clubs have six or seven managers in a period. This isn't the only club where this has happened. The players are here to do a job. You just have to get on with life."
