South African businessman Vivian Imerman has rejected reports that he is interested in gaining control at Newcastle.

Magpies caretaker boss Joe Kinnear claimed earlier this week owner Mike Ashley is in talks with 'at least eight consortiums' over the sale of the club with Imerman believed to be one of the interested parties.

Ashley is actively looking to sell his stake in Newcastle after he came under attack from fans following the departure of Kevin Keegan.

Imerman, who used to be the former owner of Del Monte, was reported be part of a consortium looking to buy out Ashley, but a spokesman for his company Vasari, has denied the rumours and says Imerman has no interest in Newcastle.

A spokesman said: "Vivian Imerman can re-confirm that he has no involvement whatsoever with any proposed purchase of Newcastle United nor any other football club.

"Neither Vivian Imerman nor Vasari the investment company Vivian heads, has any interest in investing in football clubs."
