Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi has thanked interim manager Joe Kinnear for helping put his career 'back on track'.

Kinnear was appointed to steady the St James' Park ship at the end of September following the shock departure of Kevin Keegan.

And the former Wimbledon and Nottingham Forest boss secured a first victory of his reign on Tuesday as Newcastle defeated West Brom to continue a swing in fortunes.

Ameobi has benefited from Kinnear's arrival as, with injuries to fellow forwards Michael Owen and Mark Viduka, he has been granted a run in the first XI and has scored twice in his last three games.

And the former England Under 21 international admits his gratitude to Kinnear, telling the Newcastle Chronicle: "Joe's come in and put self-belief back into my game and really put my career back on track.

"And I have to say it's great for me to be back out there working hard and playing well.

"He's shown that belief in me, and it's great for me personally."

Meanwhile, youngster Tamas Kadar is looking forward to learning from some of Newcastle's experienced players after recovering from a knee injury.

"It's a really big present for me to play and train with top stars," Kadar said.

"It's a great opportunity because I can learn something in every single minute of the training sessions.

"They are great and experienced players, so my eyes are always open and I am very keen to learn from them all."
