Newcastle interim manager Joe Kinnear was left incensed by referee Martin Atkinson's decision to award Fulham a winning penalty during his side's 2-1 defeat at Craven Cottage.

Danny Murphy scored the winner for Fulham from the spot after Fabricio Coloccini was adjudged to have clipped Andy Johnson inside the box.

Kinnear was furious with the award of the penalty claiming Johnson had committed a foul on Claudio Cacapa off the ball before he won the spot-kick.

The former Wimbledon and Nottingham Forest chief is seeking an apology from Atkinson and believes the decision cost his side victory in West London.

"Of course it comes down to a referee's decision which has cost us," Kinnear told Sky Sports 1. "Just before the penalty Cacapa gets pushed off the ball the referee lets it go and it ends up being a penalty.

"So I am absolutely fuming, an absolutely diabolical decision and we have been harshly treated again.

"So it is a bitter pill to swallow at the moment.

"We were the far better team in the second half. Once we got back at 1-1, there was only one team that was going to win.

"But the referee's decision has cost us dearly. When he sees it (again) he needs to apologise big-time. He has plenty to answer for."
