Ossie Ardiles has revealed that he would welcome the opportunity to manage Newcastle for a second time.

The Argentine coach endured a brief stint at the Magpies helm between 1991 and 1992, but was largely unsuccessful during that tenure.

However, that forgettable spell on Tyneside has not dissuaded Ardiles from the prospect of returning to the North East in the future.

Newcastle remain on the lookout for a new coach, with Chris Hughton currently in charge on a temporary basis.

With owner Mike Ashley still keen to sell the club, the managerial situation is unlikely to be resolved any time soon.

Ardiles, though, has admitted that he would be willing to help the St James' Park cause were the club to approach him.

"If that was to happen then I would be delighted, of course, but I don't think it will," he said.

"I think whoever comes in will be looking for some other people, probably Alan Shearer because he is loved up there."

While a move to Newcastle remains a pipedream for now, Ardiles admits he is actively looking to make a return to management - preferably in England.

"There are a few things on the horizon," said the World Cup winner.

"One could be the possibility of managing a team, maybe in England, or maybe abroad. It is something I am in discussions with about now. Things will happen in the next month.

"The offers I have at the moment are from abroad but in principle I would like England because England is the best place to manage a team."
