Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton says he will use the loan market to bolster his squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Hughton has already been linked with Manchester United youngsters Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck, and more recently Arsenal's Jack Wilshere.

Any approach for Sir Alex Ferguson's duo will have to wait until later in the summer as the manager is reluctant to get involved in any loan discussions until August.

The Toon boss may also find he faces stiff competition from his Bolton counterpart Owen Coyle when it comes to Gunners starlet Wilshere, who was loaned to the Trotters last season.

But with suggestions that Hughton has limited funds to play with this summer, the manager could find that loan moves are the perfect solution.

"Loans are a good thing for us but they have to be the right ones," he told the Chronicle.

Persuading

"Danny Simpson is an example of how they can work out.

"There are going to be a number of possibilities available to us and there will be some manoeuvring from us this summer."

One factor Hughton is taking into account when it comes to loaning youngsters from the top four clubs is the pressure he will be under to play them.

Newcastle were criticised by Ferguson for years ago for not giving enough game time to Italian loanee Seppe Rossi, who was allowed to temporarily leave Old Trafford.

Hughton added: "One of the problems now we have stepped up is that if we loan from Premier League sides we also have to guarantee that loan player games.

"If they cannot play in a good percentage of the games we might have trouble persuading them to come here."
