Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul has signed a new long-term deal to keep him at the club until 2014.

The Dutchman has been at St James' Park since 2005, making his debut the next year against Palermo in the Uefa Cup.

He has spent time out on loan with Falkirk and Carlisle, but Newcastle have always regarded him as an excellent prospect for the future.

The 22-year-old has impressed on the occasions that he has played for the Magpies and speculation had suggested that a number of clubs were keen to sign him.

However, Krul has now penned a new four-year contract with Newcastle and he is thrilled to be staying.

"I am delighted to commit my future to Newcastle United, hopefully I can fulfill my dream by becoming the future number one goalkeeper as well as getting into the Dutch national team squad," he told the club's official website.

"I have been at the club five years and it feels like home.

"I would like to thank Harps (Steve Harper) and Paul Barron for the guidance that they have shown me too date."

Manager Chris Hughton added: "We are delighted to have secured a four-year contract with Tim.

"He showed last season what an outstanding young goalkeeper he is and he can only get better."
