Newcastle defender Sol Campbell believes Andy Carroll is a 'great prospect' but has told the striker not to get carried away with his fine form.

Carroll impressed for the Magpies last season and has started the new campaign in style, netting four goals in three Premier League matches.

The 21-year-old had been tipped to earn a place in the England squad for their upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland, but was overlooked by Fabio Capello.

Campbell knows how difficult it is to break into the national side and has told his club-mate to stay patient and keep focusing on his performances for Newcastle.

One for the future

The 35-year-old defender feels recognition will eventually come Carroll's way if he continues to develop his game.

"Andy is definitely a great prospect" Campbell told the Northern Echo.

"We just have to make sure he keeps his feet on the ground and concentrate on the football.

"He has to keep working hard and as long as he does that he is going to keep pushing.

"He is definitely one for the future."
