Veteran defender Sol Campbell says he is 'in with a shout' of making his Newcastle debut against Blackpool on Saturday.

After playing another hour of reserve-team football against Liverpool on Tuesday night, Campbell admits he is just waiting on the call from Toon manager Chris Hughton.

Hughton watched the 2-2 draw from the stands at Whitley Park as Campbell, the oldest player on the pitch, came through the clash unscathed.

And the former England stopper, who joined Newcastle on a free transfer in July, is hoping for a run-out on Saturday when the Toon entertain fellow Premier League new-boys Blackpool at St James' Park.

Pushing

"I'm going to keep on pushing," Campbell told Chronicle Live. "I'm in with a shout, I just have to keep training hard now.

"Once you have the minutes under your belt you just have to wait for the call from the gaffer.

"I needed to get the minutes, and that's what it is all about really.

"I'm getting those minutes and I'm getting stronger and stronger."
