Coloccini: Eyeing Wembley after his goal guaranteed Newcastle's place in the fourth round
Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini says the squad is determined to win the Carling Cup this season.
Alan Pardew's side are through to the fourth round after a dramatic extra-time win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Tuesday night.
Coloccini scored the winner after it finished 3-3 in normal time and the Magpies now await to find out their opponents for the next round, with the draw taking place on Saturday.
Pardew made nine changes to the team that drew with Aston Villa at the weekend with Coloccini and Danny Simpson the two survivors.
Coloccini told the Evening Chronicle: All the players dream of playing at Wembley, but it's difficult. There are a lot of games, and a lot of good teams.
"They want to win the cup as well, and it's going to be difficult. But it is a motivation that keeps us going and we are striving to win something for our great fans."
On his goal, Coloccini said: "If you look at the games, I stay up for the second ball after a corner. Sometimes when it's the second ball, the players lose the man they're marking, and it's a good chance to score.
"It's important to keep going in the cup - it's important for us this year. We want to try and keep going."
Newcastle remain unbeaten so far this season having won two and drawn three games in the Premier League.
They welcome Blackburn Rovers to St James' Park this weekend knowing a win will keep them inside the top four.
Coloccini believes that it is crucial for the side to maintain their current form.
He said: "It was very important, as we kept the winning run. That's important for us - and we want it to keep going against Blackburn in our next game."
