Schmeichel: Coventry interest
Coventry are keen to sign Kasper Schmeichel on a permanent deal, but the young goalkeeper has hinted he is keen to move abroad.
The Manchester City No.1 has impressed during a loan spell with the Sky Blues in recent weeks, helping Chris Coleman's side retain their Championship status.
Ricoh Arena chairman Ray Ranson claims the Dane has intimated his desire to remain in the Midlands, and that all that needs to be agreed is a fee to finalise the deal.
But the talented shot-stopper, son of Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel, has stated his interest in a move to Portugal, Spain or Italy.
Ranson told the Telegraph: "We want to sign him and he wants to come. He likes the manager and he likes his style of play.
"We have drawn up a package which, in principle, he is happy with and we just have to agree a fee with Manchester City now.
"He is on Premier League wages but we think he has a great career ahead of him and we think we can agree a package."
But while Schmeichel is keen to move away from the City of Manchester Stadium, he is not limiting his ambitions to teams in England.
"I could use an environmental change, to get some new impressions."
he told 24Timer.
"I am very much interested in Spain, Portugal and Italy, in case an offer will come from those countries.
"In that regard, I am not set on England, although I have spent most of my life here."
And Schmeichel has spoken out in support of City boss Sven Goran Eriksson, who looks certain to leave the club in the coming weeks.
"I feel he has done great." he added.
"He took charge of the club which finished near the bottom last season. This season, we finish top 10.
"In my opinion, that is excellent for a club like City and Mr Eriksson is a great coach."
