Manchester City's fixture congestion has been eased after their second round Carling Cup tie was moved.

Mark Hughes' side had faced the prospect of playing four games in eight days later this month after initially being told their Carling Cup tie could not be rescheduled.

City would likely have played their second round game on Tuesday 26th August - two days after facing West Ham in the Premier League and 48 hours before a Uefa Cup tie with FC Midtjylland.

However, the Football League have confirmed City can now play their second round fixture in the week commencing 22nd September.

The club had not been given an automatic bye into the third round of the competition due to being the ninth team to qualify for Europe.
