Blackburn have rejected a bid from Manchester City for striker Roque Santa Cruz.

The Paraguay international was brought to Ewood Park by Mark Hughes last summer, with the Welshman now at the helm of Rovers' North West rivals.

Santa Cruz enjoyed an impressive first season in England, scoring 26 goals in all competitions, and proved to be one of the best buys of the year following his £3.5million switch from Bayern Munich.

A number of clubs have been linked with his services this summer, with City making their interest official by tabling a bid, believed to be in the region of £12million, late on Wednesday night.

Disappointed

But Rovers have issued a terse 'hands-off' warning to the Blues and any other interested parties and are determined to retain the forward's services.

A statement on Rovers' official website read: "A bid came in last night and it was immediately rejected.

"Various Manchester City officials have been advised on a number of occasions that the player would not be for sale.

"We are very disappointed, therefore, that they have continued their interest."

And when asked later by Sky Sports News if he was happy at Ewood Park and would be staying with Rovers, Santa Cruz replied: "Of course I am, yes."
