Serie A giants laugh off goalkeeper speculation

Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has descried rumours linking Manchester City with Gianluigi Buffon as 'fantasy football'.

Speculation suggests goalkeeper Buffon is a target of City, who have recently been taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group.

City are reported to value Buffon at £56million, but Gigli insists no amount of money would prise the Italy international away from the Stadio Olimpico.

"It's fantasy football," he told Sky Italia. "This summer there was another case of fantasy football, to be precise the story of David Trezeguet to Barcelona.

Lynchpin

"That was fantasy football, and this is the same.

"Buffon's price doesn't interest me, what interests me is to have him with us as a man, as a sportsman and as a lynchpin at Juventus."

Meanwhile, Juve striker Amauri has urged team-mate Buffon to resist the possible advances of City.

"Seventy million euros (£56m) is a great sum and Gigi is worth every penny," Amauri told Sky Sport24.

"However, Juventus need him greatly and I think we have to keep hold of him. Buffon is fine in Turin, he doesn't need to move."

Juve paid Parma £32.6million for Buffon in 2001 and the 30-year-old is under contract at the Stadio Olimpico until 2013.
