Manchester City forward Robinho has vowed to learn English as he embarks on a new chapter in his career.

The Brazilian completed his shock transfer to Eastlands from Real Madrid on the final day of the transfer window for a British record fee of £32.5million.

Robinho revealed his compatriots had previously joked about his capability to learn Spanish after he moved to the Santiago Bernabeu from Santos in 2005.

The 24-year-old, who is currently on international duty, is receiving a fresh wave of doubts from his team-mates after signing for City, but is adamant he will adapt to life in the Premier League and pick up the language swiftly.

He said: "They (his Brazil team-mates) reckoned I would hardly be able to speak Spanish, but now I need to speak English they think I will have no chance.

"So I'm going to try really hard to learn English to shut them all up."
