Adebayor: City talks
Sky Sports News understands Manchester City have held talks with Arsenal over the possible signing of striker Emmanuel Adebayor.
Adebayor has been linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer, with a number of European clubs said to be interested in his services.
Sky Sports News' chief news reporter Bryan Swanson has been told by sources that a five-year deal has been proposed, for a transfer fee of £22m, and personal terms of £170,000-a-week.
Sources have told Swanson that Arsenal have agreed to sell the Togo international, whose future looked to be settled after his agent recently stated he would be staying at Emirates Stadium.
The 25-year-old signed for the Gunners from Monaco in 2006 and has scored 62 goals in 142 appearances for the North London club.
Reports have suggested Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could turn to Bordeaux forward Marouane Chamakh as a replacement for Adebayor.
City have already signed Gareth Barry and Roque Santa Cruz from Aston Villa and Manchester City since the end of last season.
Mark Hughes is also believed to be lining up a swoop for former Manchester United forward Carlos Tevez, while Chelsea captain John Terry is a known target.
Manager Hughes is keen to build a side capable of breaking up the so-called 'big four', and the potential captures of Tevez and Adebayor would demonstrate real intent.
Manchester City and Arsenal have both stated they will not comment on transfer speculation.

Let him go I say, since holding the club to ransonm for 80k a week he hasn't really lived up to the price tag.If City want him they can pay his extortionate wage demands, Arsene can use the funds to bring in a decent striker that will score goals & not spend time on the bench moaning.

He should stay.....he is a brilliant striker.....if man city want him they must be dreaming.....man city should leave all top four club's players and go for other teams

Last season he was not half as effective as the season before, he looked like he was just out collecting his huge wages and going home. We struggled last season with no one coming to the front and being counted. We need a leader and a striker who wants to score goals and is not afraid to shoot. I like David Villa however we do not have a hope in hell of signing him..maybe turn our attentions to a midfielder that will help CESC run the middle of the park... someone to mop up up and do dirty work.. IF we can bag a tidy £30million than we have the funds to buy 2 maybe 3 class players and i think that will be enough to make a charge for the title!!

2 seasons+ 2 decent goals+7,312 missed chances = £22 million. Great business Arsene, now get on the phone to Madrid and get Huntelaar.

Any player who loves money more than the badge on their chest should be straight out of the door. Football has taken a sad turn. Remember the good old days of commitment to a club and passion in the game? You had remarkble players like Tony Adams, Ian Wright and Dennis Bergkamp playing because they loved the club, the game and the fans. It's this distinct lack of commitment that is making the game into the shambles that it is becoming pumping all the money into football is dragging the sport down further and further every season. There has been so much talks about wage caps and transfer window spending limit, in my opinion that would be the best thing for the game - the most beautiful, entertaining football was played when players needed a second job to support them. Players should be playing because they want to, the wage cheque is a bonus.

Most of you lot want Adebayor gone, but i'd rather see him stay if Wenger wants to keep him so badly. On a better note, if Man City are serious about him, i think 22 million pounds is a bargain, we should at least sell him 30 million pounds since oil riched Man City don't care about how much a player would cost, all they care about is showing the world that they can get anyone and by that they mean, players who have forgot about the love of the game and the pride of wearing a club shirt in the elite division. In Wenger, we trust.

In a way this is a sad moment. Ade had so much promise early on and really seemed determined to prove himself when King Henry was around - how good was his dribble and assist to Henry against spurs! He unfortunately couldn't keep his focus and was miserable last season; nowhere near the commitment of his first season. He blew his chance - and will end up like Reyes!

I've been waiting all summer for a club to take the guy away. Its the best transfer news for the Gunners this summer. Credit to him for some wonderful moments on the field but he was never consistent and above all he didn't cherish to be a 'Gunner'. Good for the Gunners to sell him and get a player who would value the crest more than 'Beyonce'. Good Luck to the Citizens...

Nothing but a waste of space, not fit to wear Arsenal colours. He had no passion and does not want to be at the club. The fact that City want to pay him 170,000 a week is simply lughable, City you are welcome to him. Any chance you could take Eboue and Bentner too? As for Arsenal we need a General in the middle of the park and another world class striker to partner Robin up front. Would love Alonso to come in but cant see it myself. As for strikers, Im gonna have to leave that up to Arsen Im sure he will find some 14yr old from somewhere and claim him to be the next big thing and ask us to be patient again!! Teves would of been a good shout. Another top four finish for AFC but we really should be challenging for the title. Its going to be interesting to see how Utd will replace 25 goals a season.....as things stand now I think Chelski are looking favorites for the title Im sorry to say

Take the money and run. Then go knocking on Chelsea`s door and bring Anelka back. Anelka`s game is suited to Arsenals and am sure he still would jump at the chance as he still has great feelings for the club.

Let him go, don't get me wrong as much as he is talented it's ARSENE and ARSENAL that have made him the player he is today and although city will have a star studded team next season he won't be a success in the same manner as city still wont play the same football as Wenger demands of his team. Good luck city fans with that 4th spot but you can have it off someone else as we'll be going for bigger things without him.

Arsene Wenger understands that we need to compete with the likes of man city for 4th spot of we have yet another trophyless season. If we continue like the last few years we will be in risk of losing out to city. wenger knows that and will not leave arsenal short. 22-25m for Ade = A, a great bit of business as i dont believe he is actually worth that (although i don't believe he's worth 4x less than ronaldo!) and B, he can get someone new through the door who will wear the arsenal badge with pride. I believe wenger will be singing one of the speculated midfields like Melo,Inler. Maybe even De Rossi providing we get the money for Ade. However i cant see him splashing big on a striker, he may swoop for chamakah as the article reads, but he wont be signing a £15 +.

AW should cash in and use (the apparent) £22 mill and go after three players that he has been going after for a few years. Étienne Capoue, Mamadou Sakho and Moussa Sissoko. All three are young French and overflowing with potential (should fit in well then lol). Firstly Capoue(20); a tall, strong. Hard-hitting defensive minded midfielder that as well as being the under 21 captain for his nation... Has a certain mr Vieira quality about him. Perfect compliment to Cesc. (Toulouse £4-8mill). Secondly Sakho (19), a towering centre half that as well as being the youngest player in ligue 1 to ever captain a side. Is touted as the next Marcel Desailly by Franz Beckenbauer. (PSG £2-7mill). Finally Sissoko (19) Similar to Capoue but rather more inexperienced in comparison. He¿s tipped to win young footballer of the year this season in ligue 1, and has been quoted by Platini as "one to look out for". (Toulouse £4-8mill). Its clear Arsenal need strength, players that WANT to play for the supporters and club and most importantly players that put in 100%. Whilst some may argue that they are inexperienced and unproven and not what Arsenal need, i ask those people was Walcott when he moved at a younger age? AW found and wanted him. Now look at him! These three players will learn so much from AW, and would thrive in the physical English game; in the beautiful way Arsenal play it. I don¿t think we need another striker. I think we need to compliment the players that we have and get the most out of them, ie goals out of RVP, Eduardo and Arshavin. Creativity from Samir and Cesc.

Wait till you have the injuries and Arsenal fans will be begging Adebayor was still around. We for sure cannot rely on Bendtner to make changes, he is far worse than Ade with his eyes closed. Ade needs another chance and I am sure he can prove his worth to the club.

Looks like the majority of Gooners would like to see him go. Wenger usually sells a player at the right time. Adebayor had a patchy season just gone and a good season before but in his own mind thought he was King Henry's successor....sorry mate but Henry did it year in year out and even when he didnt look interested or appeared sulky he ALWAYS produced the goods. If his heads gone for the big money, cash in Arsene and get someone in who wants to play the Arsenal way. We are only a quality midfielder to compliment Cesc and a possible Adebayor replacement striker away from challenging. Rosicky and Eduardo if their fitness is good will be like two new signings and Arshavin in all competitions, Vela will be a star..........bring it on!!!
